# Building an Underwater 360° Camera with OAK 4 FFC

This example shows how the OAK 4 FFC can be integrated into a custom enclosure. We installed it, together with five wide-FOV
global-shutter camera modules, inside an off-the-shelf watertight housing to film underwater and use onboard AI to explore the
seafloor.

The build is a walkthrough and starting point, not a finished product. It was tested in a water tank and in shallow sea water from
a canoe, and is meant as inspiration for your own underwater, marine-robotics, or inspection projects.

### Materials used

 * OAK 4 FFC Devkit (includes the M12-to-RJ45 PoE cable)
 * 5× [OAK-FFC OV9282 W](https://shop.luxonis.com/products/oak-ffc-ov9282-w) camera modules
 * [Blue Robotics 4" Watertight Enclosure](https://bluerobotics.com/store/watertight-enclosures/wte-vp/) with dome and blank
   aluminum end cap
 * [Blue Robotics RAILS](https://bluerobotics.com/store/watertight-enclosures/locking-series/watertight-enclosure-rails/) mounting
   system
 * 3D-printed camera mounts and circular tray
 * PoE power bank

## System Overview

 * 360° coverage Four side cameras sit at 90° intervals on a 3D-printed tray, with a fifth camera looking down through the dome
 * Single cable The OAK 4 FFC's IP65 M12 connector passes straight through a hole drilled in the end cap, carrying power and data
   over PoE
 * Passive cooling The OAK 4 FFC heatsink touches the aluminum end cap, so heat is dissipated into the surrounding water
 * No calibration targets Camera extrinsics are calibrated in OAK Viewer by roughly placing each camera in 3D and letting it
   fine-tune automatically
 * Ready for more The calibrated rig enables image stitching and 3D point-cloud generation

## Typical Use Cases

 * Seafloor and marine habitat surveys
 * Hull, pier, and underwater infrastructure inspection
 * Aquaculture and fish monitoring
 * A sensor head for ROVs and underwater robots
