# DepthAI v3

## What is new in DepthAI v3?

DepthAI v3 adds support for RVC4 (OAK4) cameras alongside RVC2 (OAK) cameras. It introduces a unified `Camera` node that replaces
`ColorCamera` and `MonoCamera`, creates XLink connections automatically, and lets host nodes run in the same pipeline as device
nodes. DepthAI v3 also adds record-and-replay nodes and integration with the Luxonis Model Zoo.

## Should I use DepthAI v2 or v3?

Use DepthAI v3 for new projects. DepthAI v3 supports both OAK (RVC2) and OAK4 (RVC4) cameras, while DepthAI v2 supports only RVC2
devices. DepthAI v3 also has a simpler API, with no manual XLink nodes, no explicit device creation, and a single `Camera` node.
Existing DepthAI v2 projects can migrate by following the v2 vs v3 guide.

## How do I migrate from DepthAI v2 to v3?

The main changes when migrating from DepthAI v2 to v3 are:

 * Replace `ColorCamera` and `MonoCamera` with the `Camera` node and `requestOutput()`.
 * Remove `XLinkOut` and `XLinkIn` nodes.
 * Replace `getOutputQueue()` with `output.createOutputQueue()`.
 * Start pipelines with `pipeline.start()` instead of creating a `dai.Device`.
 * Update `ImageManip` calls, for example `setCropRect()` becomes `addCrop()`.

## How do I install DepthAI v3?

Install DepthAI v3 for Python with `pip install depthai --force-reinstall`. DepthAI supports Linux, macOS, and Windows, with
Python and C++ APIs. To run the examples, clone the `depthai-core` repository, create a Python virtual environment, and run
`examples/python/install_requirements.py`. On Linux, add udev rules so the OAK camera is accessible without root privileges.

## Does DepthAI support C++?

Yes. DepthAI v3 has a full C++ API alongside the Python API, and both expose the same nodes and pipeline model. The C++ API suits
embedded products and latency-sensitive applications. API references for both languages are available in the Luxonis
documentation.

## Is DepthAI open source?

Yes. DepthAI is open source and available on GitHub under the Luxonis organization, including
[depthai-core](https://github.com/luxonis/depthai-core), the [oak-examples](https://github.com/luxonis/oak-examples) repository,
and the [ROS driver](https://github.com/luxonis/depthai-ros).
