# General

## What is an OAK camera?

OAK (OpenCV AI Kit) is the Luxonis line of AI cameras. Every OAK camera runs neural networks on the device itself, and most models
also include stereo depth, an IMU, and hardware video encoding. OAK cameras connect over USB or PoE Ethernet, and OAK4 models can
run full applications standalone, with no host computer attached.

## What is DepthAI?

DepthAI is the open-source Luxonis SDK for building computer vision pipelines on OAK cameras. Developers connect nodes such as
cameras, stereo depth, neural networks, image manipulation, and encoders into a pipeline that runs on the device. DepthAI has
Python and C++ APIs and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows. DepthAI v3 is the current version.

## What is the difference between OAK and OAK4?

OAK cameras use the RVC2 platform (Intel Movidius Myriad X, 4 TOPS in total, 1.4 TOPS for AI) and run as peripherals attached to a
host. OAK4 cameras use the RVC4 platform (Qualcomm QCS8550, 48 INT8 TOPS for AI), run Luxonis OS, and can operate fully standalone
or as peripherals. DepthAI v3 supports both platforms.
